My name is Rachael, and I am pleased to share my collection of all film photography with you. I have been shooting ever since my Grandma Bev gave me my first 110 mm film camera when I was five years old in Oregon where I grew up. Other five year olds playing dress-up and posing in frozen dance moves were my focal point. Not much has changed. I moved to San Francisco to study photography at the Academy of Art University, and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography. From start to finish I find the process of working in film to be therapeutic creativity. Choosing a format, building mental imagery, determining the execution of each precious frame, finding a favorite f-stop, taking time to manually focus, breathing out and clicking the shutter with a steady hand are each crucial steps in creating the image I want to capture. I'm drawn to real life people at comfort in their raw elements. I enjoy catching the mood of the moment right before I count to three. I usually have some kind of point and shoot camera at hand in case I come across an eccentric stranger, or fancy friends out on the town. The excited anticipation of waiting to see what the film reveals is timeless. I hope this classic process is kept alive for future generations.
